HOW TO VOTE & VOLUNTEER
WHAT WILL MY BALLOT ASK?
A SELECT CITIZENS COMMITTEE PROVIDED IMPORTANT OVERSIGHT
The needs outlined in this 2019 Bond Referendum were carefully developed and assessed by leading experts and then scrutinized by a select, diverse 50-member citizens committee from throughout Beaufort County over a 10-week period during the early months of this year. This referendum features a no-frills package of projects that include: (1) An imperative, upgraded technology infrastructure at every school which will support necessary security enhancements and allow students to access advanced educational resources; (2) essential renovations at a number of older schools; (3) added classrooms and ancillary facilities to meet the demands of our County’s rapidly expanding student population.
GRASS ROOTS ADVOCACY COMMITTEE
Following approval of the Referendum by the Beaufort County School Board, a grass-roots advocacy group was formed independently – Citizens for Better Schools Now! – to generate public support for passage of the Referendum.
This group’s volunteer Steering Committee includes:
- Two representatives from northern Beaufort County: Judge Joseph Kline (retired) of the Dale community of Sheldon Township and former Town Councilman Joe Lee of Port Royal.
- Two representatives from southern Beaufort County: Shannon Bedenbaugh of Hilton Head Island and Debbie Burke of Bluffton – both of whom have a history of active involvement in public education matters.
- Two professional advisors Tom Gardo of Denarius Group and John Williams of The Williams PR Group – each with a background in coordinating bond referendums. Both live in Beaufort County.
